Hi! I'm writing you here as I don't know how else to reach you: what is in your opinion the authoritative translation of the AufklΓ€rungsschrift? I use the German original, and I only found "tutelage" in an English translation for "UnmΓΌndigkeit". Elsewhere, you said "minority". I find "immaturity" to be the best translation yet, but I wonder what the standard translation is? I have to give a keynote lecture at Warwick in June, and I hear there are a lot of Kantians around (I'm what you could call an anti-authoritarian Marxist: trying to align some of Kant's with Marx's idea on freedom here). Really feel keen on the standard translation. Thanks!
hi, I think there is no standard translation for UnmΓΌndigkeit in English. Immaturity is indeed a possibility. I used minority I think because that's the translation used in the Cambridge edition and by other Kant scholars. But both English terms don't really cover all connotations of 'UnmΓΌndigkeit', in my view. In Dutch there is the quite standard equivalent to the positive German term MΓΌndigkeit, i.e. 'mondigheid', which covers exactly what it says in German.
